Some vehicles are guaranteed to split opinion before the auctioneer has even picked up the microphone.
This custom 2000 Volkswagen Beetle Pick-up, complete with its own matching trailer, was one of those cars. Love it or loathe it, it attracted attention all weekend at Anglia Car Auctions before eventually selling for £5,292 including buyer’s premium.
Originally entered without reserve, the modified Beetle proved that individuality still has a place in the classic and enthusiast car market.
A Beetle unlike any other
Based on a 2000 Volkswagen Beetle, the car has been professionally converted into a compact pick-up and paired with a bespoke trailer finished to match.
The conversion features lowered suspension, banded steel wheels, a wooden steering wheel and a beautifully finished wooden load space, creating a distinctive custom that wouldn’t look out of place at any Volkswagen show.
The matching trailer completes the package and certainly helped make this one of the most memorable lots of the sale.
A proven show winner
According to paperwork in the history file, the Beetle has previously won awards at three Volkswagen shows.
While many custom builds spend more time parked than driven, this one appears to have been enjoyed properly.
The odometer showed 150,360 miles, the MoT runs until 13th May 2027 with no advisories recorded at its latest test, and the vendor reported that it runs and drives very well.
The history file also contains several receipts dating from 2021 to 2024, including evidence of a minor service carried out in 2023.
Would you drive it?
Cars like this always divide opinion.
Some enthusiasts appreciate the craftsmanship and imagination behind such a unique conversion, while others prefer their Beetles exactly as Volkswagen intended.
Whichever camp you fall into, there’s no denying this is a conversation starter that puts a smile on people’s faces.
