Military Land Rovers always attract attention, but this restored Snatch Defender appears to be taking things to another level.
Listed on eBay by seller jaco1746, the former British Army vehicle has already attracted a large number of watchers, and it’s easy to see why.
According to the seller, this armoured Snatch Land Rover served with the Basra Battle Group in Iraq before eventually finding its way into civilian ownership. Over the past seven years it has reportedly been restored and upgraded, with the current owner describing it as a labour of love with no expense spared.
The result is one of the most striking Defenders we’ve seen for some time.
What Is A Snatch Land Rover?
The Snatch Land Rover was developed for military use and became a familiar sight during operations in Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Unlike a standard Defender, the Snatch featured armoured bodywork, protected glass and specialist equipment designed for use in hostile environments.
As a result, surviving examples have developed a strong following among military vehicle enthusiasts and Land Rover collectors alike.
What’s Been Done To This One?
The seller states that the vehicle now benefits from a long list of upgrades and improvements, including:
New 4.6-litre V8 engine
New SU carburettors
New drivetrain
New rear crossmember
Front and rear disc brake conversion
Stainless steel exhaust system
Diesel heater
Blindo alloy wheels
Radio antennas
Vixen ECM roadside bomb equipment
Bridging ladder
Additional spare parts and accessories
The upgraded V8 is likely to be a major attraction for many buyers, particularly when paired with the stainless exhaust system mentioned in the listing.
One Of The Best In The UK?
That’s certainly the seller’s opinion.
The listing describes the vehicle as “probably one of the best examples in the UK”, and while that’s obviously a subjective claim, the photographs do suggest a considerable amount of time, effort and money has gone into the build.
The desert-style finish, military equipment and overall presentation make it stand out from the crowd, while the rear compartment appears to remain packed with period military details.
Whether you’re a military vehicle collector, Land Rover enthusiast or simply someone who likes owning unusual machinery, this is the sort of vehicle that is unlikely to pass unnoticed.
