Morris Minor – YPH 37G – The Sun TV Advert

Like a bat out of hell I’ll be gone when the morning comes… in my Morris Minor.

We’re pretty convinced that the inspiration for this advert by The Sun was Wayne’s World, which was released a couple of years prior. The Americans got an AMC Pacer and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, we got a Morris Minor and Meatloaf’s Bat Out Of Hell!

The advert was for a music cassette giveaway collaboration between The Sun and Shell. Younger readers may have to Google ‘cassette tape’ to find out what one of those is!. The people in the Morris Minor were obviously fans of Meatloaf, but hey, who isn’t?

Question is, did the poor Moggy make it past 1996? It’s unlikely, as they were two-a-penny back then, but you never know. If it does turn up, the owner can now say it’s an “As seen on TV” car. That’s got to add a fiver to the price, surely?
