Back in the day, everyone wanted a Golf GTI or a Peugeot 205 GTI. Meanwhile, the MG Metro just got on with the job… and was often overlooked.
Now? That’s starting to look like a mistake.

An Early One – And That Matters
This is an early Mk1 MG Metro, and that gives it a bit of an edge.
These early cars feel closer to the original idea – light, simple, and properly analogue. No gimmicks, no excess weight, just a small British hot hatch that does exactly what it’s supposed to do.
With 64,000 miles and five owners, it hasn’t been overused or over-restored. It still feels like a Metro, not a museum piece.
Anyone who knows these will immediately look for one thing: the suspension.
And in this case, it’s been sorted. All four Hydragas spheres have recently been replaced by a recognised specialist, which is a big tick in the box and not a cheap job to have done.
Beyond that, it was restored a few years ago and has seen very little use since – which is often exactly what you want. The hard work’s been done, but it hasn’t been worn out again.
It’s also now MOT and tax exempt, making it an easy classic to live with.
Let’s be honest – it’s the interior.
That cloth trim with the red piping, the simple door cards, and the upright driving position are pure early ‘80s. It’s clean, honest, and exactly how one of these should feel.
No screens, no distractions – just a steering wheel, a gearstick, and a reason to go for a drive.
Listings come and go, so even if this one has sold, it’s still worth keeping an eye on what’s available.
