Historics Returns to Windsorview Lakes with a Summer Sale Packed with Collector Cars

Nine weeks after its headline-making Farnborough auction, Historics Auctioneers is heading back to Windsorview Lakes in Berkshire with another eclectic catalogue that looks set to attract plenty of attention from classic car enthusiasts.

Taking place on Saturday 18th July, the sale features around 190 lots covering everything from pre-war luxury cars to modern performance machinery, with estimates ranging from accessible projects to some of the most valuable collector cars currently available on the UK auction scene.

Having recently seen a Ford RS200 sell for almost £291,000 at its previous live auction, expectations will be high once again as bidding gets underway.

A Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Leads the Sale

Sitting at the top of the catalogue is a beautifully restored 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster.

Estimated at £790,000 to £880,000, the concours-quality Roadster is finished in elegant Blaugrau with a Hermès tan leather interior and represents exactly the sort of blue-chip collector car that rarely appears without attracting international interest.

For many visitors, it will be one of the highlights of the viewing days before the auction even begins.

An RS200… in Pieces

Not every headline lot is ready to drive.

One of the more unusual entries is an unregistered 1986 Ford RS200 S, offered not as a complete car but as an extensive collection of original assemblies, body sections and period-correct components.

Only 20 RS200 S models were produced, making this one of the more intriguing restoration opportunities to come to auction this year. With an estimate of £95,000 to £105,000, it will be fascinating to see whether rarity outweighs the challenge of completing such an ambitious project.

Those wanting instant gratification need only look a few pages further into the catalogue, where another 1986 RS200 is offered in fully operational form, boasting around 500bhp and a Quaife six-speed sequential gearbox.

Estimated at £255,000 to £285,000, it promises a rather more immediate driving experience.

Ferrari, Porsche and Plenty More

Historics has never been known for focusing on just one type of collector car, and this catalogue continues that tradition.

A 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT is expected to attract considerable attention. Having been laid up for four years, the car has benefited from significant expenditure at DK Engineering and now awaits sympathetic recommissioning. Estimated at £140,000 to £180,000, it could appeal equally to collectors and enthusiasts who enjoy returning significant classics to regular use.

Porsche enthusiasts are equally well catered for.

Among no fewer than sixteen Porsches entered into the sale is a beautifully restored 1957 Porsche 356 A Super Speedster with documented history from new. With an estimate of £140,000 to £190,000, it represents one of the most desirable early Stuttgart sports cars in the catalogue.

Competition History and Japanese Icons

Competition cars also feature strongly.

One particularly interesting entry is believed to be the first Works competition Triumph Spitfire prototype from 1962. Campaigned successfully by the late Richard Lloyd and accompanied by FIA Historic papers, it carries an estimate of £28,000 to £32,000 and offers genuine motorsport provenance.

Moving into the Japanese market, Historics has consigned a freshly restored 1972 Datsun 240Z.

Values of early Z-cars have continued to strengthen over recent years, and this example, estimated at £34,000 to £38,000, looks likely to attract plenty of interest from those seeking an increasingly collectable Japanese classic.

Something for Every Collector

One of the strengths of the Windsorview Lakes sale is its variety.

Alongside the six-figure exotics are cars with much broader appeal, including a remarkably original 1977 BMW 633 CSi that has remained with one family since new and spent two decades in dry storage. Better still, it will be offered without reserve.

There is also an impressive selection of BMW M models, a pair of elegant 1930s Rolls-Royces, a rare Jensen 541S, a Jowett Jupiter, TVR Vixen V8 and an excellent selection of Minis.

Among those is a 1964 Morris Mini Cooper S Mk.1 CCC75 prototype, developed to celebrate the Cooper Car Company’s heritage and expected to be one of the more talked-about British classics in the sale.

Another Strong Catalogue

Historics has built a reputation for assembling diverse catalogues rather than concentrating solely on headline supercars, and that approach is evident once again.

Whether your interests lie in pre-war coachbuilt machinery, homologation specials, British sports cars, Japanese performance icons or modern collectibles, there appears to be something worth keeping an eye on.

Viewing takes place over the three days before the auction, with bidding beginning at 9.30am on Saturday 18th July at Windsorview Lakes, Berkshire.

We’ll be watching the results with interest to see which cars meet expectations and whether any surprise stars emerge once the hammer starts to fall.

If you’re planning to attend, register to bid or simply want to explore the lots in more detail, you’ll find the auction catalogue, viewing information and venue details on the Historics website:
