Hammer goes down on rare Ford Escort Mexico prototype

Bidding Classics sees first sale of 2023

2023 got off to an impressive start for fledgling auction website Bidding Classics as the hammer went down on a recently consigned and highly desirable Ford Escort Mexico four-door prototype.

The factory-built Mexico was one of just six officially assembled and, as a result, attracted a lot of attention with the Escort’s reserve being hit in just a matter of days.

When bidding closed on 22 January 2023, the 1972 prototype realised an impressive hammer price of £32,000 – a figure that acknowledged the vehicle’s outstanding condition as well as its rarity.

Bidding Classics’ Managing Director, Neil Atkinson said of the result: “It has been particularly pleasing to have been entrusted with the sale of such a rare vehicle and to have helped find the Escort a new home – a fantastic start to 2023.”

Other classics recently sold through the online auction platform, which charges no buyers fees, include a 1961 Jaguar MkII, 1961 Austin Cooper and a 2006 BMW M3. Whilst those currently being consigned include a rare 1962 Fiat 1200 Cabriolet, a 1936 MG SA Charlesworth with unique US history and a very original 1984 Mercedes-Benz C123.
