EASY TIGER! BIDDERS WILL POUNCE ON RARE HILLMAN AVENGER

An extremely rare, classic Hillman Avenger Tiger has been consigned by Classic Car Auctions to its December Sale taking place on 2nd December at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre.

One of just 25 surviving examples worldwide from a limited production run of only 200 cars by Chrysler Competitions Centre, the right-hand drive, manual Mk 1 is scarcely seen on UK roads and among the most sought after classic cars around.

Built as a publicity exercise to promote the standard Avenger range, the Tiger has a host of distinctive features including ‘Sundance Yellow’ paintwork with a matt black bonnet bulge, unique to the Mk 1, side stripes, rear spoiler, Lucas auxiliary lamps and ‘Avenger Tiger’ lettering on the rear quarters.

Not only that, the Tiger is no sleeping cat, with a 1500 GT engine and twin Weber carburettors generating a roaring 92 bhp along with agile handling, offering a performance to rival the Ford Mexico.

“This is an extremely rare car. So few of the Mk1s were made that it’s no surprise that today they are so sought after worldwide, and this particular example is one of the best documented Series 1 Tigers left,” explains Richard Greenhalgh, classic car specialist, Classic Car Auctions.

Over the years the car has been carefully maintained over the past nine years at great expense, including full restoration of the front seats, new headlining and carpets, as well as a mechanical overhaul including new Bilstein rear suspension, carburettors, brake pads and battery.

The original, extremely rare rev counter is not fitted but available with the car.

With just 1,000 miles covered since restoration, the Tiger is presented in excellent condition and will be offered with a sale estimate of £18,000 to £22,000 when it goes to auction.

“This is a delightful, very original classic which will draw attention wherever it goes. It will make a fine addition to any collection and is suitable for taking to shows and classic road runs for all the family to enjoy,” concludes Richard.

With just five owners from new, the car is accompanied by an extensive history file, original bill of sale, every MOT and Tax Disc as well as a new MOT until June 2018.
