A member of the family subsequently contacted us to share a lovely photo of KBT 999, with Joe the Jack Russell on the bonnet. As you’ll be able to see, the red paint that we thought we could see under the current paint, is clearly visible.
The icing on the cake, though, was the newspaper clipping below, which is an account of how the two twins, with their identical cars, got into a spot of bother. We’ll type it out, in case you have trouble viewing it….
Two Whissonsett twins had two identical cars, and when one – the insurance of which had nearly a year to go – was scrapped, they “thought it would be all right” to switch its number plates and Excise licence to the other.
The story of the two sets of twins was heard at Dereham Magistrates’ Court yesterday when the brothers appeared on six offences concerning the second vehicle.
Edward Daniels (22), of Church Farm, pleaded guilty to using the car without an Excise licence and while uninsured, and was fined £3 and £8 respectively.
His twin brother, John, denied permitting him to use the car uninsured, but admitted aiding and abetting him to use it without an Excise licence, failing to notify the authorities of a change in its ownership, and failing to notify an alteration. He was fined £8 on the insurance charge, £3 on the second and £2 on each of the last two.
Sgt, Tom Smith, prosecuting, said the offences arose largely out of “misunderstanding and ignorance,” and emphasised the brothers’ helpfulness during enquiries.
He said one of the two identical cars had been scrapped, with its insurance and Excise licence still good. It was when the other car – driven by Edward – was involved in an accident that the police found they had been switched from one to the other.
In statements, both admitted the switch and said they thought it was all right and would have covered the other vehicle for insurance.
