Jaguar’s Big Cat, small mileage auctioned by Car & Classic
Europe’s biggest classic and niche vehicle online platform Car & Classic is offering a Jaguar XJ-S HE of remarkable originality through its auction system; with fewer than 4,000 miles on the clock, this classic sportscar boasts total originality, down to the plastic car covers and Dunlop Sport tyres, the same with which it left the showroom in 1981.
A high-efficiency V12 engine may already be an unusual oxymoron, but the mere 3,751 miles on this Jaguar, reflected in its overall condition, the amount of paperwork and the evident care with which it has been preserved, make it all the rarer.
Interior leather, wood detailing, knobs, buttons and switches, tool kit (down to the same bulbs with which the XJ-S left the factory) all contribute to the feeling of a metallic bronze “time capsule”.
The Big Cat sits on original paws: the Dunlop Sport Super Formula 70 215/70/15s are original, the very same with which the original owner drove it off. They may need replacing in the name of safety, but they are testament to the car’s complete authenticity.
The glorious V12 may not be as ‘highly efficient’ as most engines on modern cars, but it is certain to offer the kind of driving experience classic car fans appreciate.
Head of Editorial Chris Pollitt points out that the XJ-S is yet another example of a classic car whose values have risen alongside its desirability and demand as the prices of the car it replaced, the E-Type, have become prohibitive for many enthusiasts.
“Good examples of the XJ-S are fetching strong money as they are becoming increasingly popular, but this one offers so much more, in a truly unique condition that makes it worth of joining an important collection.”
The XJ-S HE’s auction starts on 1 March and lasts for seven days. Details at:
