1971 Triumph TR6 Found After 42 Years Off The Road

Some cars instantly make you stop scrolling.

This 1971 Triumph TR6 is one of them.

We were recently contacted by the long-term owner of this white TR6, who had owned the car since 1979. The car had spent decades tucked away and unused, with DVLA records showing it has been untaxed since February 1984.

That means this Triumph has effectively been off the road for more than 42 years.

And yet, despite the years of storage, it remains a wonderfully honest-looking thing.

A Proper Old-School British Sports Car

The Triumph TR6 has always had a certain presence about it. Long bonnet, short rear deck, straight-six soundtrack and unmistakably British styling — they still look fantastic more than 50 years later.

This particular example is very much a full restoration project, but that is also part of its appeal.

The body looks largely complete and unmodified, the original injection setup is still in place and the car retains the kind of aged originality enthusiasts tend to prefer over heavily restored examples.

Inside, the TR6 still wears its period wood dashboard and classic sports car layout, while under the bonnet sits the famous 2.5-litre straight-six engine waiting to be recommissioned.

Off The Road Since 1984

Cars like this are becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Not necessarily because TR6s are rare, but because genuinely long-term ownership stories are getting harder to come by. This one had been with the same owner for nearly half a century before he contacted us for advice about selling it.

A few months later, we agreed a deal and purchased the car ourselves.

It has clearly been stored carefully for many years and, while it will need full recommissioning and restoration work before returning to the road, the fundamentals appear promising.

Heading To Anglia Car Auctions

The TR6 was recently collected for us by our trusted friends at N G Vehicle Logistics and will now be heading to the June 2026 Anglia Car Auctions Classic Car Sale.

There is always something exciting about seeing a car emerge after decades hidden away, especially one as usable and well-loved as a TR6. With values for properly restored examples remaining strong, we suspect this one will attract plenty of attention when it crosses the block.

We will also be filming the car properly soon, so expect a follow-up feature once it appears in the Anglia Car Auctions catalogue.

Do You Have Something Similar Sitting Away?

Cars like this are exactly why we enjoy doing what we do.

Long-term ownership stories, forgotten garages and honest old classics that haven’t seen daylight for decades are becoming increasingly difficult to find now — especially cars that still retain so much originality.

We are always interested in buying classic cars, motorcycles and unusual old vehicles, whether they are complete restoration projects, unfinished projects or simply cars that have been sitting unused for years.

If you’ve got something tucked away and are thinking about selling, feel free to get in touch with us through the UK Barn Finds website or by WhatsApp on 07494 851220.
