Bangers & Cash Austin J40 Unveiled

Austin Pedal Cars unveils Bangers & Cash J40 Restoration at Bicester Heritage April Scramble

Austin Pedal Cars reunited Bangers & Cash: Restoring Classics with their freshly restored Austin J40 at the Bicester Heritage April Scramble, following a 3-month restoration undertaken by Austin Pedal Cars experts.

The aim of Bangers and Cash: Restoring Classics is to buy a classic car from Mathewsons Auctions and take it to a trusted restoration specialist for an overhaul. Once the work has been completed the car is put back into an auction, and the full story is reported on the show.

Back in January of this year, Austin Pedal Cars took delivery of a solid, but desperately in need of attention, Austin J40 pedal car acquired by the Bangers and Cash: Restoring Classics team that looked to have been used as part of a fairground ride in a previous life. The car certainly looked a little tired and the removal of the fairground specific parts was a necessity to return it to original pedalling condition. After a lifetime of hard work, the bodywork had acquired plenty of patina but was still considered worth saving to preserve its heritage and classic looks.

Austin Pedal Cars restoration experts spent 3-months restoring the car, which including extensive work to the well-worn body in preparation of a full respray back to its original colour of Ash Green. A number of modifications from its past life, were reversed and every other aspect was either carefully restored or replaced using Austin Pedal Cars in-house manufactured parts. The end result is one of the most carefully and sensitively restored Austin J40 pedal cars in the world and is a car that is well worth bidding on when it comes to auction.

As the TV cameras rolled, the just-completed Austin J40 was revealed at the Bicester Heritage April Scramble by the Austin Pedal Cars team. In front of an assembled Scramble crowd, the Bangers & Cash team were walked around the car and shown extensive amount of work carried out and, after spending the event being admired by Scramble guests, the car was then taken to be sold at a Mathewsons auction, taking place on Thursday 2nd May. Interested buyers can view the auction here.

This Austin J40 will be shown in the new series of Bangers & Cash: Restoring Classics, due to broadcast later this year, with extensive, behind the scenes footage of the restoration as it progressed at Austin Pedal Cars Headquarters, and the grand reveal at the Austin Pedal Cars showroom at Bicester Heritage during the Scramble event.

Mark Burnett, Managing Director of Austin Pedal Cars, said “Bangers & Cash are famous for bringing great classic vehicles back to life. Over 3-months the team has carefully restored every element of this classic pedal car, ready for auction, and we have also included some additional extras, including our tailored car cover, scale model recreation and a copy of our new J40 history book, to further tempt bidders when it goes to auction.
