During the 1990s, he bought a lot of 180s, and only kept the ‘saveable’ cars, choosing to break any unrestorable cars for parts.
In the UK, there are about 10 180/2L cars left, and only 2, sometimes 3 on the road.
The car was a tragic outcome of Chrysler’s poor management after the takeover of Rootes Group. Originally designed as a Humber/Hillman ‘C’ car for the 1970s, it was the bigger brother of the Avenger.
Sadly, during development, the engineering had to shared throughout Chrysler Europe, and as a result, you had a car with British Styling and Suspension, French engine, American gearbox (Torqueflite), Italian Carburation, and Spanish wiring.”
