A few weeks ago we shared a short video of this wonderful 1966 Morris FG Recovery Truck arriving at Anglia Car Auctions ahead of their June classic sale. Now the truck has officially appeared in the auction catalogue, giving enthusiasts a closer look at one of the most distinctive commercial vehicles of its era.
The Morris FG is one of those vehicles that stops people in their tracks. With its unmistakable “threepenny bit” cab design, wraparound glass and forward-control layout, it remains one of the most recognisable British commercial vehicles ever built. While many were worked hard and eventually disappeared, survivors have become increasingly sought-after among classic truck enthusiasts and collectors.
This is the same truck featured in our earlier arrival video, filmed as it made its way into the Anglia Car Auctions site ahead of the June 20-21 sale weekend. There’s something rather satisfying about seeing a period recovery truck still doing exactly what it was designed to do.
Unlike many classic cars, commercial vehicles often had difficult working lives. Recovery trucks especially tended to accumulate high mileages while spending decades exposed to the elements. That’s what makes surviving examples like this so appealing.
Finished in period maroon with a cream roof, this FG has plenty of character and presence. The recovery body, winch equipment and timber deck all add to its appeal, creating the sort of vehicle that would look perfectly at home at classic shows, transport rallies or in a collection of period commercial vehicles.
The FG’s unusual cab design wasn’t simply for looks either. It was created to improve visibility and make the vehicle easier to manoeuvre in tight urban environments, something that became a defining feature of the model.
Anglia Car Auctions has entered the truck into its June 20-21 2026 classic vehicle auction with an estimate of £4,000 to £6,000. The vehicle is accompanied by a V5 document and benefits from MoT-exempt status.
At the time of writing, ACA’s catalogue entry notes that further details are expected to follow.
