Few classics attract smiles quite like a Mini Pick-up.
Originally designed as a hard-working commercial vehicle, surviving examples are now among the rarest members of the Mini family. This beautifully restored 1962 Morris Mini Pick-up is one of the highlights of Historics Auctioneers’ Summer Serenade sale at Windsorview Lakes on 18th July, carrying an estimate of £23,000-£28,000.
If you’re a Mini enthusiast, it’s also well worth browsing the Historics catalogue, where you’ll find more than 30 detailed photographs of this Pick-up as well as a number of other interesting Minis in the sale.
One Of The Rarest Minis
Mini Pick-ups were never produced in huge numbers and very few survive today.
Historics notes that only around 30 are thought to remain, making good examples exceptionally scarce.
Manufactured in 1961 before first being registered in 1962, this example still retains many of the early features enthusiasts love, including the floor-mounted starter button and the long gear lever.
Restored To A Very High Standard
According to Historics, the current owner is an experienced engineer who carried out a comprehensive restoration.
The vehicle was stripped back to a bare shell before any corrosion was removed and replacement panels professionally welded into place. The paintwork has been finished to a high standard, while the interior remains pleasingly simple and true to the original design.
Mechanically, the A-Series engine has also received attention, with the cylinder head converted to run on unleaded fuel for easier modern ownership.
Heritage Included
The Morris comes complete with a Heritage Certificate together with a substantial history file, adding further confidence for prospective buyers.
As with all Mini Pick-ups, practicality was always part of the appeal. Despite its tiny footprint, Alec Issigonis’ clever front-wheel-drive layout created a surprisingly useful load bed while delivering the nimble handling that made the Mini famous.
A Mini That Ticks Every Box
Finding any genuine Mini Pick-up is becoming increasingly difficult.
Finding one restored to this standard, retaining its early features and supported by documented history is even harder.
If you’d like a closer look, Historics has published an excellent gallery containing more than 30 photographs covering every aspect of the vehicle. While you’re there, it’s also worth browsing the other Minis entered into the sale.
