From the seller: “A rather weather worn and weary Daimler needing resurrection. As the pictures show, time has been unkind and after 72 summers, it’s time for a make over. In my ownership for 10 years after rescuing her from a building from which the roof had been stolen. It’s been undercover since but sadly it was already too late. It’s a Hooper bodyworks of London, coach built Daimler DB18 with the special sports engine and pre-selector gearbox. Special sports came with alloy cylinder head and twin SU carburettors. The body is mainly hand rolled aluminium over a timber frame. Eye wateringly expensive in 1951. The chassis is sound, as is suspension but body will need serious attention. Interior is not beyond saving but again serious attention. Instruments and period radio look very nice. Engine has rocker shaft removed (inside car) and there are bent pushrods so suggests some drama, gearbox unknown. There is a spare engine (less cylinder head), 2 fluid flywheels and gearbox available by separate negotiation. Paperwork wise, car has its original number and I have old buff log book and an old MOT.
There are less than 25 of these cars left so it would be amazing if it could be saved but equally it would provide a huge source of parts to keep others going.”
