There are projects… and then there are projects.
This left-hand drive 1970 Ford Escort Mk1 definitely falls into the latter category. At first glance, it’s hard to know where you’d even begin, and that’s exactly why listings like this always get people talking.
A Proper Mk1 Escort Project
Described as a 1600 model and imported in 2023, this Escort comes as a rolling shell with a V5C present. Beyond that, you’re looking at a car that’s been stripped back to its bare bones.
The interior is gone, the engine bay is empty, and the body… well, the photos tell the story. Rust is everywhere, panels are tired, and it’s clearly been sitting for some time.
But here’s the thing: it’s still a Mk1 Escort.
Why Do These Still Sell?
No matter how rough they are, early Escorts always find an audience. Rally heritage, simple mechanics, and huge parts availability mean that even something this far gone will attract interest.
For some, this is a full restoration challenge. For others, it’s a donor shell or the starting point for a rally build. And for a few brave souls, it’s exactly the sort of “save it at all costs” project that defines the hobby.
Buy It Now… or Make an Offer?
This one is listed on eBay as a Buy It Now with offers invited, which feels about right given the condition.
It’s the kind of car where value is entirely subjective.
But more importantly, if you’re tempted by something like this, it’s always worth keeping an eye on what’s out there.
A quick search for Mk1 Ford Escort project cars on eBay shows just how wide the spectrum is, from complete restorations to shells like this: https://ebay.us/M7mlIh
Would You Take It On?
That’s really the question with this one.
Is it a viable restoration? A donor? Or simply too far gone to justify the time and money?
We’ve seen worse saved… but not many.
And if you’ve got something similar tucked away, whether it’s a project, a collection, or a full garage clearance, we’re always interested in hearing about it. Cars, bikes, parts, signs… if it’s got a story, we’ll take a look.
Because love them or hate them, it’s cars like this that keep the scene interesting.
