I have to admit, this 1967 VW Beetle Woodie is a new one on me. I’ve never seen one quite like it before!
From the seller: “Rare 1967 beetle woodie from San Francisco, California!
This is a left hand drive Volkswagen beetle, converted with the American woodie kit, most probably the only one in the UK! You can still buy the plans for the woodie online as this will need all the wood re-doing except for possibly the roof as it is still in good condition. The bonnet is fibreglass which came with the kit and in really good condition, replicated a 40/50s ford, could look great as a hot rod.
The front end is solid but the rear floor pan passengers side has fallen through and sills and heater channels are also rotten. The bottoms are rotten but could be salvaged. The wings are printed “MEXICO” and are solid aswell as the inner wheel arches. The engine is running from a can and sounds sweet. Able to drive it in first gear (not tried other gears). It’s the 1500cc which I was told was the more reliable of the engines. Comes with loads of parts seen in photos. Also the rare to find spotlight on the drivers (left) side!”

We buy some strange things. Usually they have wheels. This one doesn’t. Today’s purchase is probably one of the more unusual motoring-related objects we’ve brought home: an enormous reproduction of the Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy. It stands around 77cm tall, sits on a marble plinth and weighs an absolute ton. Well, perhaps ...
Three of the garage-find classics we’ve been following went under the hammer at Reeman Dansie today — and one of the results surprised us more than the others. The 1963 Austin Mini Cooper 997cc, 1973 Renault 15 TS and 1981 Ford Cortina 2.3 GL V6 had all appeared on UK Barn Finds in the run-up […]
The Morris Marina has spent decades as one of Britain’s favourite automotive punchlines. But perhaps it’s time we gave it a break. This remarkably smart 1972 Morris Marina 1.3 SDL Coupé recently went under the hammer at Anglia Car Auctions, where plenty of online bidders seemed keen to take it home. Watching the bidding left [&...
