5 Dangerously Tempting Projects We Spotted On eBay Today

Classic car projects on eBay can be dangerously tempting sometimes.

We started off looking for one interesting project this morning and somehow ended up staring at a rotten Mk1 Fiesta, a brave BMW 635CSI restoration, a rare Mini Pickup and one of the maddest custom Beetles we’ve seen in years.

Naturally, we now want all of them.

1974 Morris Mini Pickup Restoration Project

The Mini Pickup is probably the thing here we’d struggle hardest to leave behind.

It absolutely isn’t a quick fix and there’s clearly plenty of welding ahead, but genuine Pickups are getting seriously hard to find now and even rough ones still have loads of appeal. The seller says it’ll need work to the load bed, sills and various other areas, while the rear subframe has already been removed to help move it around.

Still, there’s something about a tired old Mini commercial that makes you immediately start convincing yourself it’s savable.

This one would either become brilliant… or absorb every spare weekend for the next five years.

1979 Mk1 Fiesta Project

This little Mk1 Fiesta is already attracting bids and we can completely see why.

Less than three years ago we had great fun with a tiny Mk1 Fiesta on the UK Barn Finds YouTube channel and they’re such likeable little things when back on the road. This one clearly needs work around the front end and has been standing for years, but it still looks full of potential.

The seller mentions it still has Ford logos cast into the rear drums too, which is exactly the sort of pointless detail we love spotting on old projects.

You can already imagine this turning up at local shows with a crowd of people saying “I haven’t seen one of these for years.”

1983 BMW 635CSI

We’re not entirely convinced this E24 makes financial sense as a restoration, but thankfully that’s never stopped enthusiasts before.

The seller describes it as “very rotten” and honestly, the photos don’t disagree. Still, even sitting there looking sorry for itself, an old 635CSI has real presence and you can absolutely picture somebody standing in a cold garage convincing themselves this is a perfectly reasonable idea.

It was apparently bought as a donor vehicle before plans changed, so most of it is still there, including the interior and engine.

This feels like one of those projects where bravery and common sense probably stopped speaking to each other years ago.

1982 Citroën Dyane 6

The Dyane might actually be the most charming thing here.

According to the seller, the car belonged to their late father and has been sitting in a shed for years, but apparently still starts and drives. You rarely see Dyanes in the UK now and this one just looks wonderfully honest and usable.

It’s impossible not to smile looking at it.

We can already imagine it loaded up with camping gear somewhere in rural France while modern crossovers queue behind it at 38mph.

1973 Volkswagen Beetle 1600 GT

And finally… probably the maddest thing here.

Underneath all the dust is a Beetle fitted with a seriously wild Porsche-style body kit, complete with Weller wheels and a Cherry Bomb exhaust. It apparently hasn’t been on the road since 1986 and needs extensive restoration, but you can already tell this thing must have caused absolute chaos at car shows back in the day.

It feels exactly like the sort of custom build somebody poured their entire personality into sometime during the late 1980s.

We honestly can’t decide whether it’s brilliant or terrible.

Possibly both.

So then… which one’s your pick today?

The Mini Pickup probably makes the most sense, but we’d really struggle to ignore the Fiesta.

Although that Beetle could either become the coolest thing here or completely ruin somebody’s life.

There probably wouldn’t be much middle ground.
