1965 Vauxhall Viva HA Deluxe Featured On Bangers & Cash Appears On eBay

There’s something properly cheerful about an early Vauxhall Viva HA. Small, simple and unmistakably British, they’ve become increasingly hard to find in genuinely usable condition, especially now so many have either disappeared completely or ended up tucked away in long-term collections.

This freshly restored 1965 Vauxhall Viva HA Deluxe recently caught our eye on eBay, partly because of the colour combination and period look, but also because it’s apparently the very same car featured on Bangers & Cash Series 13 Episode 13 under its previous registration, GXD 303C.

A Restored And Usable Early Viva

According to the seller, the little Viva has recently benefited from a full respray, new carpets, replacement headlining, fresh brake cylinders, a full service and a set of Dunlop D1 alloy wheels fitted with new tyres.

Importantly, the seller says the car “runs and drives excellent”, which is exactly what most people want from something like this. Not an over-restored trailer queen, but a tidy, usable classic that can actually be enjoyed on the road.

The seller is refreshingly honest about the remaining jobs too, mentioning that the headlining is slightly saggy in places, the engine bay could do with painting and the bumpers would benefit from rechroming. In truth, that probably makes the car more appealing to many buyers. It still looks wonderfully presentable without feeling too precious to use.

Why The HA Viva Matters

When Vauxhall launched the Viva HA in 1963, it was aimed directly at the growing small family car market dominated by the Ford Anglia and Morris Minor. Compact dimensions, light controls and simple mechanicals made them hugely popular at the time, but survival rates today are surprisingly low.

Early HA Vivas also have a very distinctive look now, with their crisp lines, delicate chrome details and compact proportions giving them plenty of charm. Cars like this remind you just how small everyday family cars once were.

The fact this example appears so solid underneath is a big part of the appeal too. Rust was the downfall of countless Vivas over the years, so anything that has survived this well deserves attention.

Seller Notes And Spare Details

The seller says health issues are the only reason for the sale and describes the car as “one of the nicest I’ve seen to be honest.”

From the photos, it’s easy to see why. The pale blue paintwork suits the car beautifully and the overall presentation strikes a nice balance between restored and usable.

If you’re interested in classic British saloons from the 1960s, this one certainly stands out from the usual Minis and Anglias that dominate the market.
